Other things you can do:

1.  Get your child to read to you.

2.  Take your child to a French restaurant.  Le Ti Colibri is in Kensington market.  The proprietor also speaks English as well, to help translate. Also, in Crêpes à GoGo, at Bloor and Spadina by the JCC, French is spoken.

3.  Many DVDs and movies are available in French - on Netflix too.  Adjust the language setting and your children can watch their favourites in French.

4.  Bescerelle is a good dictionary or www.wordreference.com

5.  Take your child to the ROM.  All the textual commentaries are bilingual.

6.  Have a look at telefrancais, 10 minute shows aimed at French learning  - lots of episodes available here on YouTube

7.  Go to the local library and seek out the aid of the librarian to give you a tour of their French language books and resources.

8.  Take your child to Montreal over the winter break and visit local museums. Hearing French spoken in general use is great for letting your child see what it's all about!

9.  Ask your child's teacher for some traditional French songs and play them in the background at dinner.

10.  Continue to get your child to read in English, as they will use these de-coding skills in French.

Any hints, tips or suggestions of your own - feel free to get in touch and share!
